Here at St. John’s, we firmly believe becoming a well-rounded member of society takes more than academic ability. School sports play an important role in a child’s development; instilling confidence, teamwork and leadership skills.
Our after-school sports clubs (undertaken by Stamper Dance and SJB Football, run by ex-professional footballer Simon Baldry) include:
Monday – Gymnastics
Tuesday – Girls’ Football Club
Wednesday – Year 5 and 6 Football Club
Thursday – Year 3 and 4 Football Club
Friday – Dance like Diversity!
We are extremely proud of the sporting achievements of our pupils and their commitment to good sportsmanship, as well as their competitive spirit and desire to win, of course!
We have strong links with the School Sports Partnership and as a school we enter a wide variety of sports competitions and events, recent examples including:
Barnsley School’s:
• Boys’ Football Competition, leading to the South Yorkshire finals

All children participate in a wide assortment of National Curriculum PE and sporting activities during the school day. In addition, the children in year 4 attend National Curriculum swimming lessons and the year 5 children participate in a residential course offering adventurous outdoor opportunities.
